Beyond the by-laws

Postby rwitte42 » Thu Dec 01, 2005 4:31 pm

A question ...

There are some projects or changes that the membership would seek to drive that don't really belong in the by-laws, but they aren't Festival Operations either (so they wouldn't be handled by the Festival Operations Committee or the Director of Operations). They fit more into a category I would call "corporate operations". This might include things like the electronic registration, electronic voting, the creation of an eCommerce site for Dragonfest merchandise, or the formation of a quarterly newsletter. What would be the formal process to propose such projects, gain concurrence from the membership that they are worthwhile, and drive them to completion?

Your examples sound like they would fall under the Board of Directors: if the Board thinks the suggestions (your examples) have merit, the Board would accomplish them. The Dragonfest membership apparently does not care enough to vote, let alone pursue the goals you have suggested.

1) Electronic registration for the 'fest still requires a waiver be signed by the attendee.

2) Electronic voting has enough problems to be rendered not gust useless but also prone to corruption. Just look at the 2004 USA Presidential election for an example.

3) There may be very little demand for Dragonfest produces for sale.

4) The problems with a quarterly newsletter are:

1) postage expense
2) Lack of news to report

Quarterly Newsletter

Postby RowanLae » Tue Jan 03, 2006 4:46 am

You know, the quarterly newsletter could always be an "e"-newsletter. Expense would be next to non-existent. Would there be at least SOME news to report once every 3 months? The less news, the shorter the newsletter, but at least people would get to touch base with was is or is not happening.

E-Newsletter

I like the idea of a quarterly e-zine. Posting it to our web page shouldn't be that difficult, or for that matter here in the forum.

Adding a synopsis of the Board meetings would also give the community an idea of everything it really takes to keep the festival going.
