Talent show? Bardic circle?

The packet with the ticket came to the ranch on horseback, via Benedictine monk, yesterday (no, really: long and sordid story there) and I see that there is no mention of a talent show, nor bardic circle.

Are these two events a thing of the past?

So, no talent show this year; no bardic circle scheduled nor space set aside in the literature for one. Instead we had a few "bands" come and sing/play for us at the "Stone Soup" which nobody could hear over the roar and screaming of the inconsiderate and uninterested audience.

I sat right in front of the speaker, next to the soup pots, and I could not hear anything the singers sang--- the audience was that noisy. Why the bloody hell did the singers / bands even bother?

Hint to Ops for Dragonfest 2010: DON'T BOTHER SCHEDULING BANDS, NOR AN AUCTION, OR ANYTHING AT ALL, DURING THE "STONE SOUP." It is utterly pointless, and the few people who want to be entertained by the bands or singers will always be drowned out by the vast majority in the audience who scream to make themselves heard over the PA system.

I always want to accord much respect to musicians and artists who work so hard to entertain an audience. I feel that any meal time, especially in a large crowd, is a bad time for musicians to entertain, especially when most of the crowd is unaware that they will be entertaining. The Stone Soup crowd was spending a last few minutes with friends and many were a tad put out that they were being admonished to "sit still and shut up". I know. I heard many comments. It's not fair to the musicians and it's not fair to the crowd. Let the musicians have an area where their fans can enjoy them. The noise level in the Community Center is deafening in the best of situations.
