Workshops 2014

Workshops are opportunities for folks to share ideas and skills with others. They range from crafts like hoop drum making to skills like drumming to traditions like tarot to discussions like religion in politics. Workshops are typically held in the shade with around a dozen people attending.

Fabulous Fairy Wings with Angel 1p-3p Workshop C (Conex Box)

Fairies of all ages welcome! Limit 25 fairies
I will be teaching you to make your very own wearable fairy wings. From wire shaping to nylon stretching, flower centerpieces and glitter galore! Advanced techniques for older participants including double wings, hole making and corset wearable wings. I am an award winning body painter and character designer. I make costume and leather pieces for my company Angelcake Art LLC.

Wiccante Privilege with Silver Hope Reynolds 10a-12p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)

What is Wiccanate Privilege? Are you Duotheistic, polytheistic, a pantheist, non-theist, animist, or something else? Why do the different classifications cause a great debate within the greater pagan community?

Orientation and Welcome with Phil Catalano 10a-12p Workshop B (Community Center)
All ages
This is both a welcoming for new Dragonfest attendees as well as a refresher for all attendees. We will discuss all facets of the Festival – Medical, Security, Community Center, Drum Circles, etc… what to expect throughout the event, its history, the organizational structure, current events and activities.

Sustainable Gardening: An Introduction to Backyard Permaculture with Terri Lepthien 10a-12p Workshop C (Conex Box)
No preregistration.
All ages. Small children will be bored.
Permaculture is not just a method but is about rethinking our relationship with the Earth. There will be a presentation of the basics of permaculture as applicable to home gardening, followed by a discussion period. Please bring your ideas and experiences.

Asatru and Wicca Gods and Goddesses with Starr 1p-3p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)
From Aphrodite to Freya, so many similarities and yet so many differences! Join us in this three part workshop as we explore the differences between modern Wicca and modern Heathenism. We will culminate with a heathen ritual to Thor, God of the common man. Will culminate in a ritual on Saturday 1p-3p in Hecate’s Grove

Advanced leather tooling and mask making with Angel 1p-3p Workshop C (Conex Box)

Ages Teen and up (teens must have permission to use an exacto knife) Limited to 20 people
Everything you need to know about leather cutting, shaping and tooling. Mask designing, tooling, drying, painting. I am an award winning body painter and character designer.

An Elemental Walk with Marta 1p-3p Workshop D (Trance Circle)
Ages Teen and up
A grounding walk through the land becoming aware of the elements and their gifts. We will start from the gathering place and walk in a circle, meditating at the quarters and becoming aware of what they have to offer us constantly. We will return to the gathering place at the end of the walk.

Practical Spellwork with Sára Rain 3:30p-5p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)
All ages (though sometimes Sára uses bad language… parents be warned!)
Attend this workshop if you want to know how magic can play a bigger role in your life… get some tools for using tools you have on hand (or with no tools in hand)… explore reasons for doing spells and creative ways to address the desires of this moment with everyday magic. ANY AGE (though sometimes Sára uses bad language… parents be warned!)

Wicca/Pagan 101 with Kiki 3:30p-5p at Teenfest

This is a Teen Rituals workshop – Teens will create a BoS, how to create Sacred Space, how to write a ritual, Sacred Tools, and more.

Spiritual Circles: Mandalas with PhoenyxFaery 3:30p-5p Workshop B (Community Center)
Ages Teen and up – $5 fee for materials
These beautiful circular images are more than just colorful art. Find out the history & various uses and create one of your own. We will do some meditation to aid in the creation. If you have any questions email carmensevents@yahoo.com

Multiple Drawing Down Workshop and FAQ session 3:30p – 5p Workshop C (Conex Box)
If you intend to draw down, if you are helping with walking, and if you are grounding for the Multiple Drawing Down, please attend this required orientation. After that, there will be an FAQ portion open to everyone who is planning on attending the MDD. We are calling this, ‘My Drawing Down’, which will help you understand what to expect, resources at your disposal, how the ritual works, and proper etiquette—as well as some words on what NOT to expect!

Tea Herders at Workshop C (Conex box), 3:30p-5p
All ages are welcome & encouraged (we are not responsible for children drinking caffeine)
Gather your teas, your hot water, and your cup and meet us for an afternoon of tasting, sharing, and discussing teas & tisanes. We will have some hot water and teas to try. If you have ever made your own tea and want to share, this is the place. Found a tea you can’t live without? We want to hear about it. Taliacyn has been going to Dragonfest her entire life and is an avid fan of gardening and teas.

 

Friday

Body Painting with Greenman Mike 10a-12p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)
Join Greenman in painting your own and other people’s bodies as you share your artistic talents. This is a long standing tradition at Dragonfest to explore the creativity of body art. This is a clothing optional workshop and children are welcome as long as a guardian is also present. There will a limited amount of body paints available for use, so you are encouraged to bring your own if you have some.

Shaman Hoop Drum making workshop with Phil Catalano 10a-12p Workshop B (Community Center)
Preregistration required: at wizard1phil@gmail.com by July 1st
All ages.
Phil has been taught by 2 different teachers, has made more than 20 Drums, and has been teaching classes for 7 years. This workshop will concentrate on a particular design made popular with the availability of pre-made hoops and the availability of skins and hides.

Breaking the Cycle of Violence with Silver Hope Reynolds 10a-12p Workshop C (Conex Box)
Ages Teen and up
To educate about the cycle of abuse that is common in cases of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual abuse and elder abuse. This same cycle can be seen within group dynamics with strong religious or political agendas. We will cover the cycle of abuse and ways to break the cycle from a practical and spiritual perspective.

Teens will learn different chants, their uses, and will make their own chant book to take home with them.

Pagans in Recovery with Terri Lepthien and Phoenix Circle 1p-3p at Phoenix Circle
All ages. Adult Content – may not always be appropriate for small children.
People in recovery often disagree on the best method to find sobriety. As with the rest of our lives, recovering pagans often are bombarded by others’ spiritual paradigms. How do we get sober and stay sober? What are our options? I will do a short presentation on some options I have found and we will have a discussion. Friends and family of addicts/alcoholics are welcome.

Chant and Drum with Sára Rain 3:30p-5p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)
All ages
Bring all your vocal chords. Bring a drum. Bring your enthusiasm for music, community, learning, sharing and co-creating some sound magic! You may also want a notebook and/or recording device. We’ll do some rhythm-making, melody-singing, harmony-weaving and joy-manifesting!

Silk Veils & Sarongs to Dye For with Debbie Myers 3:30 PM – 5 PM Workshop B (Community Center)

Learn a number of techniques to dye your own silk veil/sarong and be wearing it while dancing around Freedom Circle on Saturday night. Work with a “35×84″ piece of habotai silk that is light weight enough that it flows in a gentle breeze. The price for a veil is $30. Also available will be scarves of different sizes from $10 – $20.

Polyamory? What? Why? How? with Sára Rain 1p-3p Workshop A (Freedom Circle)
Ages Teen and up
The Pagan rule of “harm none” is relevant to ALL intimate relationships. Polyamory has been prevalent in the Pagan community, and for good reason… Let’s expand beyond the momentary pleasure-seeking (nothing wrong with that!) into the compassionate heart of loving relationship, even and especially in MULTIPLE relationships.

Decorate a Broom with Mary Ann Bonetti 1p-3p Workshop B (Community Center)
Ages Teen and up
Broom decoration! Come decorate a broom and discuss broom magic. Donations of supplies or money requested, but not required.

Trees as Allies and Friends: contemplative practice and energy work with trees with Anne 1p-3p Workshop D (Trance Circle)
Ages Teen and up
In this experiential workshop we will work with the energy fields of trees to deepen our relationships and mutual connection. Participants will gain some elegant and basic practices they can apply in the daily life for health, centering and service to the living world. It will also be a centering and renewing experience in the midst of the fest. You may bring your dowsing rods if you wish (entirely optional)

Goddess Runes with Mary Ann Bonetti 3:30p-5p Workshop B (Community Center)
Ages Teen and up
Learn about this ancient for of divination with Mary Ann Bonetti who has been carving, studying and reading Goddess Runes for 20 years.

Whole Earth Kirtan with Taliesin 3:30 PM – 5 PM Workshop C (Conex Box)
Group chanting is one of the oldest and most fun of spiritual practices. For this workshop, we will emphasize pagan perspectives with chants from Starhawk to Rock & Roll. “The Greenman Chant” – “The Goddess Chant” – “I Release the Fear the Binds My Soul” – “I Just Want To Celebrate” and so forth.
