May Dragonfest News

Dear Dragonfest Community:

May is nearly behind us, and we have so many exciting things to share with you about this year’s 40th Anniversary retreat. Here’s the latest news:

Registration

Online registration is still open!

Starting July 1, a $50 late fee will apply to all registrations, and t-shirt add-ons will no longer be available. Online registration will close the week before the retreat. At the gate registration will be available but will also incur the same $50 late fee. Additionally, the gate cannot give change or take debit/credit cards so exact cash for at the gate registration is required. Save that hassle and register today!

Meal Plan Reminder

Hot breakfast is no longer included in the retreat membership price. If you want hot breakfast at the community center each morning, you need to opt in for the meal plan at registration. If you decide not to get the meal plan, you are still welcome to bring your own breakfast to the community center and join in the theme days and visit with fellow attendees. If you want the breakfast plan, you need to register online before July 1. The breakfast plan will not be available for purchase for late or at the gate registrations.

40th Anniversary: Calling the Dragons Home

We have so many exciting things in store for our 40th Anniversary celebration at this year’s retreat! Dragons look very majestic, but they are also quite silly, so we need bubbles and merriment to call them home. Please pack your bubbles and we will supply the merriment!

  • Opening Ritual – After opening ritual there will be a dance party, and cake will be served
  • Breakfast Theme Days at the Community Center
    • Thursday: Crazy Hat Day
    • Friday: Hawaiian Shirt Day
    • Saturday: Dragonfest Costume
  • Bob Keys’ Memorial Community Dinner/Main Ritual – There will be a parade leading to the Bob Keys’ Memorial Community Dinner. Wear your onesie to the Community Dinner & Main Ritual after the dinner.

Staff Openings

We’ve had a great year for staff volunteers, but we still have a few openings that need to be filled. To volunteer for one of these positions, please fill out the Staff Sign-up Form. These are the positions we need to fill:

  • Setup and Takedown – Any staff who would like to volunteer for setup and takedown should please fill out this form in addition to the Staff Sign-up Form.
    • The setup/takedown team is responsible for putting up and taking down the structures needed for the retreat. Setup and taken down staff need to be on-site Tuesday morning and need to work through Sunday afternoon until the work is completed. This requires one to lift and carry objects and be on one’s feet for several hours at a time.
  • Medical Volunteers Needed
We are in need of volunteers for the medical department during the retreat. You must be an EMT or higher level of certification, or be close to the end of an EMT program to be able to volunteer.

Dragonfest Coffee Meet and Greets

Have you always wanted to attend Dragonfest but don’t know anyone and have questions? Do you know someone who might be interested, but just needs more information?
Good News! We are hosting Coffee Meet and Greets in various parts of Colorado throughout the year to meet people in person and answer their questions.

Come meet with folks who have attended Dragonfest before and who can give you insight into what the community is like and answer any questions you (or your friends) may have. Here are the details for our next events:
